Airline Highway
Driving from San Jose to Los Angeles has always been a boring and tiring task, as Interstate-5 generally offers no views whatsoever. Although Highway 101 resides by the ocean and has some great views, it takes some extra time to complete. This time, however, I have taken a partial new route via the Airline Highway (aka Highway 25) because it leads to the east side of Pinnacles National Park.
First I passed by Hollister (the last town before nothing), so I expected to see a few small towns connected through "a lot of nothing" the rest of the way like the I-5. What came next was totally unexpected and blew my imagination. Upon leaving Hollister, the road narrows down to a single lane each direction. Instead of nothing, the Airline Highway cuts through the heart of the California's countryside with some of the greenest rolling hills, vineyards, and ranches. It was picture perfect with the help of the bluest sky. It was arguably the cleanliest and most calming scene I have seen. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride despite needing extra time to navigate the windy road, so I'd advise anyone visiting Pinnacles NP to take this one on and see it for himself!
