Long before the trip happened, I studied tips and techniques on capturing star trails on camera. That kind of photos are simply beautiful even though they may all look similar, but we got our chance to make ours in Death Valley National Park.
We arrived at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes around 11pm. The moon was bright but was fortunately dimmed by the clouds. Fearing that extremely long exposure might harm digital sensor, I opted to shoot film -- a high risk high reward move. I let the shutter opened for approximately 70 minutes and the result could be seen above. Not too shabby for a first attempt!
